HARVEY ON LITTLE BIG SHOTS TALK SHOW https://www.ellture.fah.uinjambi.ac.id/index.php/ellture/article/view/101 <p>Even though conversations between adults and children are considered unable to fulfill the principles of cooperation, it turns out that in the conversations between adults and children at this talk show, many of the principles of cooperation in good conversation are found. The research aims to analyze the maxims detected in the conversation, and to know the procedures for building a good relationship in the conversation held by the presenter. Therefore, this research uses the theory put forward by Grice (1975) regarding cooperative principles which discusses maxims. For research data, researchers used five YouTube channel videos from Little Big Shots talk show UK. To make it easier for researchers to answer these problems, researchers used qualitative research with descriptive methods. Data collection techniques include non-participant listening, recording, taking notes. The data analysis technique for this research is descriptive technique. Research results (1) The types of maxims detected in twenty-five conversations were eight quality maxims, eleven quantity maxims, five relevant maxims, one manner maxim. (2) Mr. Harvey builds positive relationships when speaking by using the concept of rationality, composing questions using narrative discourse, and creating excitement by adding elements of comedy.</p> BERLIANA ANJELA PUTRI Copyright (c) 2025 English Language, Linguistics, Literature, And Education Journal 2025-12-24 2025-12-24 7 No. 2 90 102 10.30631/ellture.v7iNo. 2.101 Trauma and Recovery in the Novel The Road by Cormac McCarthy https://www.ellture.fah.uinjambi.ac.id/index.php/ellture/article/view/103 <p>The objective of this research is to analyze trauma and the recovery process experienced by the main characters in <em>The Road</em> by Cormac McCarthy. This study aims to: (1) identify traumatic events in the novel, and (2) describe the trauma recovery process. The research applies Judith Herman’s theory of trauma and recovery. This study uses a qualitative method with a psychological approach, and data were collected through documentation of narratives, actions, and dialogues. The findings show that: (1) three types of trauma are identified forgotten history, terror, and disconnection, and (2) five stages of trauma recovery are reflected safety, healing relationships, remembering and grieving, reconnection, and commonality. The purposes of this research are to describe the types of slang and explain the functions of slang used in Tiny Meat Gang Podast. The approach used in this reseach is a sociolinguistic approach with a qualitative descriptive method. This research used the slang theory of Allan and Burridge to describe the types of slang and the functions of slang. The researcher analyzed the data source by analyzing conversational dialogue from podcasts through YouTube transcripts. The results show that 1) There are five types of slang found in this Tiny Meat Gang Podcast, namely Fresh and Creative, Flippant, Imitative, Acronym, and Clipping, and all five were found in this research. 2) There are seven functions of slang according to Allan and Burridge, namely to Address, to Humiliate, to Initiate Relaxed Conversation, to Form Intimate Atmosphere, to Express Impression, to Reveal Anger, and to Show Intimacy. However, only five functions of this research were found, namely to Address, to Humiliate, to Initiate Relaxed Conversation, to Express Impression, and to Reveal Anger. M. Forster's The Machine Stops (1909), and Harlan Ellison's I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream (1967). Using a post-structuralist perspective, the study aims to deconstruct the meanings of rebellion against technology and explain its causes and effects. The theoretical framework uses Albert Camus's concept of rebellion (1951) to interpret existential resistance, Jacques Derrida's concept of deconstruction (1976) to analyze textual ambiguities, and Jacques Ellul's theory of technological determinism (1964) to comprehend the dominance of machines. This is because it was only implemented in the 2023/2024 school year. The purpose of this research is to find out how the implementation of the merdeka curriculum in learning activities carried out by English teachers. The view on the merdeka&nbsp; curriculum in this study used the opinion of Sugiono (2025). This research used qualitative descriptive methods, data collection in natural settings on primary data sources. Data collection techniques are carried out by observation, interviews and documentation. Data were processed using the Miles and Huberman method and analyzed using narrative. In collecting data about the implementation of the merdeka curriculum in learning activities carried out by the principal, deputy curriculum, and subject teachers. The results showed that: 1) based on the data obtained through observation of the application of the merdeka curriculum in learning activities carried out by English teachers, it shows that there are many activities carried out by English teachers in learning activities. These activities are carried out in stages. Data obtained through interviews regarding teacher difficulties in implementing the merdeka curriculum show that there are many difficulties and other related ones. The difficulties faced by teachers have problems including teachers have a lack of guidebooks to implement the merdeka Curriculum, students are lacking in the teaching and learning process, and students lack understanding of the material. 2) The socialization of curriculum implementation has not covered everything and is not optimal. Based on the data above, the researcher concludes that the implementation of the merdeka curriculum carried out by the principal, curriculum deputy, three English teachers at Jambi Laboratory MTS has not been maximized due to delays and implementation in the first year.
